Support the fight against the projected record number of new cancer diagnosis in 2024.

How will funds be used?

Funds raised will support critical research, prevention programs, and patient support services in response to the record-high cancer cases expected in 2024. Contributions may be allocated to leading cancer organizations like the American Cancer Society to enhance early detection efforts, advance treatment technologies, and provide care and assistance to those affected by cancer.

The Story

In 2024, the U.S. is bracing for an unprecedented number of new cancer cases, surpassing 2 million for the first time. This surge reflects not just the aging population but also an alarming rise in cancer among individuals under 50. Despite a significant decrease in cancer mortality rates over the past three decades—thanks to better detection, treatment, and smoking reduction—the increase in common cancers such as breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer poses a severe challenge. This development underscores the need for intensified prevention and research efforts to combat this escalating health crisis.

What Happened?

Over the last three decades, the U.S. witnessed a remarkable decline in cancer mortality, with an estimated 4.1 million lives saved due to advancements in detection, treatment, and a decrease in smoking rates. However, this success is now overshadowed by the stark reality that new cancer cases are set to hit a record high in 2024, exceeding 2 million. This increase is partly due to the population’s aging and growth but also reflects a concerning rise in the incidence of six of the top ten most common cancers, including breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers.

The American Cancer Society’s latest report highlights a shift towards younger cancer patients, with a notable increase in diagnoses among those aged 50 to 64 and a troubling uptick in colorectal cancer among individuals under 50. These trends hint at changing lifestyle and environmental factors, such as obesity, that may be contributing to the rise in cancer cases.

Racial disparities continue to exacerbate the situation, with cancer incidence highest among Black men, primarily due to a significant burden of prostate cancer. These disparities underscore the urgent need for equitable healthcare access and targeted prevention strategies to address the root causes of cancer disparities.

As the U.S. faces this looming crisis, the emphasis on early detection, effective treatment, and robust prevention strategies has never been more critical. The rising cancer incidence calls for a concerted effort from healthcare providers, researchers, policymakers, and the public to stem the tide of this disease and continue the fight against cancer.
