Contributions can be directed to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, American Red Cross, and Samaritan’s Purse efforts.

The Story

Central Texas, especially the Hill Country, was hit by devastating flash floods when heavy rain—up to 20 inches in some areas—caused the Guadalupe River to surge over 20 feet in under an hour. The catastrophic flooding resulted in at least 129 confirmed deaths, with more than 160 people still missing. The disaster struck without much warning early in the morning, sweeping away vehicles, homes, summer camps, and families. First responders and volunteer teams are working tirelessly to find those missing and support survivors amid ongoing concerns of further flooding.

What Happened?

Central Texas experienced an unprecedented flash flood disaster following a slow‑moving storm system that dropped extreme rainfall—over 20 inches in places—on saturated ground. Campsites, including summer camp facilities near Hunt, Kerr County, were submerged, and the Guadalupe River jumped dramatically, carrying away cabins, cars, and families in mere minutes. Within hours, scores of homes along river corridors were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Emergency services, including local, state, and federal teams, along with Texas National Guard personnel, were deployed for swift-water rescues and evacuation missions. Debris-covered waterways and roads hampered initial search efforts. Tragically, at least 129 lives were lost, including campers and counselors, with over 160 still missing as search continues.

As recovery progresses, communities have rallied—churches, nonprofits, and businesses like H‑E‑B and James Avery have pledged millions to relief funds  Authorities paused rescue operations briefly due to renewed risk of flash flooding, underscoring ongoing safety concerns. Relief organizations are providing essentials like food, clean water, emotional support, well testing, and debris cleanup through both local and national channels . As families await reunion or closure, volunteer efforts remain vital in helping communities begin the long process of rebuilding and healing.
