Support Kentucky Families Affected by Devastating February Floods: Aid for Recovery and Rebuilding

How will funds be used?

Donations will provide immediate assistance to individuals and families impacted by the catastrophic flooding in Kentucky, covering emergency shelter, food, medical supplies, and support for rebuilding homes and infrastructure. Funds may be directed to local relief organizations and community foundations actively working in the affected regions.

The Story

In mid-February 2025, Kentucky experienced severe flooding due to a powerful storm system, resulting in at least eight fatalities and widespread property damage. Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency, and President Donald Trump approved federal disaster-relief funding to assist in recovery efforts. The storm also affected neighboring states, leading to additional fatalities and extensive damage.

What Happened?

Beginning on February 14, 2025, a significant storm system brought heavy rainfall to Kentucky and surrounding states. The National Weather Service issued flood warnings, anticipating 5 to 8 inches of rain in some areas. The excessive rainfall led to rivers and creeks overflowing, causing flash floods that inundated homes, roads, and businesses. In response, Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency and activated the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center, with the National Guard on standby for rescue operations. Tragically, at least eight individuals lost their lives due to the flooding, including a 73-year-old man whose vehicle was swept away.

Emergency responders conducted numerous rescues, assisting residents trapped by rising waters. Power outages affected approximately 39,000 homes, and infrastructure damage was extensive. President Donald Trump approved Governor Beshear’s request for an emergency disaster declaration, enabling federal assistance for the affected communities. The storm’s impact extended beyond Kentucky, with neighboring states like Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia also experiencing severe weather, leading to additional fatalities and damage. As floodwaters recede, recovery efforts are underway, focusing on providing shelter, restoring utilities, and rebuilding damaged properties.
